Sacubitril is a prodrug that, when activated in the body, inhibits an enzyme called neprilysin. This increases levels of natural peptides (like natriuretic peptides) that help to dilate blood vessels, excrete sodium and water, and reduce strain on the heart.
Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents the hormone angiotensin II from narrowing blood vessels and increasing blood pressure. This dual action helps the heart pump blood more efficiently.
